I generally try to avoid this section of Hollywood like the plague. Parking is generally a nightmare, everyone looks like they need to be washed with a high pressure hose, but the Lucky 7 Happy Hour at Lucky Devils (Weekdays 3p-7p) is well worth the trek to Hollywierd. It's located at 6613 Hollywood, between Whitley & Cherokee.
PARKING: Lucky Devils does offer valet, there's a parking structure north of Hollywood on Cherokee, and there's free parking one block north on St. Francis Terrace. My suggestion: Take the Red Line Metro to Hollywood/Highland exit and walk the four blocks east.
With the logistics out of the way, let's talk food. Lucky Devils has a great pub-like atmosphere with an amazing selection of beers (30+ bottled beers and 14 on draft) really great barbeque and amazing Mac n 4 cheese (move over Pete!).
Here is a quick break down of their $7.77 Happy Happy menu:
Two Kobe Diablo Sliders served on those amazing sweet Hawaiian buns, double smoked bacon, avocado, white cheddar and Devil hot sauce. So good.
Lucky Rib Sandwich on a toasted brioche bun with really good bbq sauce
Hickory Smoked Baby Back Ribs slow cooked with their beer and spicy herb marinade. This is quite a bit of food for $7.77 - a 1/4 rack served with their amazing jalapeno corn bread pudding.
Kobe Chili Cheese Sweet Potato Fries ahhhhhhh yeah with pepper jack cheezze and chopped red onions on top.
Two Kobe Bacon Bleu Sliders sound awesome right? Uh... yeah, you need to split an order of this and the Diablo sliders with a friend. This sandwich is one of my favorites because their caramelized onions are cooked with beer for a really great flavor. It also has a garlic roasted aioli, swiss gruyere, blue cheese, double smoked bacon and those sweet Hawaiian buns. *** really good!
You can't have a Happy Hour without Wings! Lucky Devils offers Pecan Smoked Stout Wings brushed with a spicy stout marinade and your choice of dippin' sauces.
BEERS: Happy Hour offers $4 on selected drafts and $1 off all bottled beers.
If none of the above seem appetizing to you, then you may not want to read on because the selection gets even better!
Their dinner menu offers a better selection including great pizzas, more "pulled" sandwiches including pork and chicken, great starters including their 4 cheese mac n' cheese (white cheddar, pepper jack, swiss gruyere and Grana Padano parmesan... WHAT?)
They also have some killer Grilled Cheese Sandwiches with varieties involving swiss gruyere, apricot smoked cheddar, drunkin' beer carmelized onions, double smoked bacon.... ahhhhhhh. I wouldn't lie about how good these are!
Their pizzas are unlike most Hollywood pizzas and that they aren't drenched in cheap sauce. Their ingredients are creative and have nice combinations including portabello mushrooms & wild arugula, a white pizza with their beer caramelized onions and a standard, but tasty, margherita. Pictured here is their bbq chicken pizza.
The perfect desert for a beer lover? Try their Stout Float for $7.50 - Anderson Valley Oatmeal Stout layered with vanilla frozen custard. Ever had vanilla frozen custard? If not, you seriously need to move to the east coast, or make sure you live a block away from Lucky's. It is soooo good!
They also offer other sweets where homemade waffles and sundaes are combined! They have ones covered in caramel cinnamon apples, chocolate frozen custard, toasted pecans, and salted Chimay beer caramel sauce... and several different concoctions. Most are $7.50.
You might be tempted to eat at the singing Italian place Miceli's down the street, but don't! Not today! - head out to Hollywood for some good pub food. Good beer. Good food cooked in beer!
Lucky Devils.
